Shearwater receives Juniper Networks Security reseller of the year for 2006 award

Shearwater Solution has received the award for J Partner of the year from Juniper Networks (Juniper) for 2006 for Australia/ New Zealand. The award was received at Juniper’s annual partner conference for the Asia Pacific region held in Thailand and recognises Shearwaters expertise and experience with the Juniper’s product range and the commitment to Juniper’s reseller program.

More vulnerabilities are discovered every day. Shearwater holds Unchain your information seminar, discussing application acceleration and identity management.

Together with Juniper Networks and Oracle Australia, Shearwater held a seminar on accelerating applications using Juniper technology as well as identity management solutions from Oracle.

Oracle Corporation is a Juniper Networks alliance partner and has complementary solutions. Shearwater works closely with both organisations and used the opportunity to showcase solutions from these organisations and how they can assist in meeting business objectives.

Shearwater presents at combined councils meetings.

Shearwater has presented at a number of combined council group meetings discussing Information Security and current issues in security. The focus of these presentations was to raise the profile of IT Security issues within the council environment as well as to make councils more aware of current legislation which is impacting on the Councils such as the Work Place Surveillance Act.

Shearwater has worked with a number of Councils on various projects including policy development, vulnerability assessments as well as the development, implementation and management of ICT security infrastructure.

Mark Hofman teaches at SANS Brisbane Southbank 2006.

Mark Hofman, who is the professional service manager of Shearwater Solutions, was the lead trainer on the Security Essential course for the SANS Institute' at the Brisbane SANS conference. The SANS institute is recognised as one of the leading training institutions for information security. Mark is currently the only SANS authorised trainer from Australia and has presented for SANS at a number of training conferences. He is scheduled to present at the SANS Sydney training to be held at the Sydney Hilton from 14-19 August. He will be presenting on “401 Security: SANS Security Essentials Bootcamp Style

Shearwater sponsored research at the Macquarie University has been submitted for Australian Postgraduate Awards Industry (APAI) Award.

The research that was undertaken by the University focused on developing an automated model against distributed denial of Service attacks. The research was jointly sponsored by Commonwealth Government of Australia and Shearwater as the Industry partner. The research has resulted in a number of publications in International and national journals as well as presentations at international conferences. The research was awarded the PGRF award from the Macquarie University in May 2003.

Martin Kaldor B.E, M.B.A joins Shearwater as a Sales Business development Manager.

Shearwater Solutions is proud to announce that Martin Kaldor has joined the organisations. Martin has extensive achievements in business management, business development, strategic planning and project management in the Communications and IT Security industry. Martin has been involved in Information Security since 1995. Martin is currently National Chair of ISIG (the Australian Information Security Interest Group).

Martin’s initial experience was involved in international telecommunications, and WAN and LAN systems for Business and Government applications. His experience includes technical system and management solution developments for International and Australian organizations. His background includes management positions and business development activities in organisations such as Overseas Telecommunications Commission, AWA, Lend Lease, QPSX Communications, Marconi and Blue Sky Industries. His qualifications include BE (Communications) from UNSW, MBA from Macquarie University Graduate School of Management, and numerous short courses, including Information Security. He has lectured at Macquarie University and various Industry Seminars and Conferences.

His information security involvement covers a range of security systems, channel development and corporate management, including projects in banking, manufacturing, government, and other industries. In the Federal government area, he has been involved in meeting Government agency requirements such as Commonwealth Electronic Commerce System, Aust Bureau of Statistics, Dept of Defence, Dept of Treasury, Reserve Bank, Defence Computing Bureau, and supporting services such as Cluster gateways of CSC, SecureNet and 90 East (now CyberTrust) These activities have involved liaison with DSD, Attorney-General's Dept and DCITA.

Martin has extensive project management experience, applied to projects in AWA, Lend Lease and QPSX. Projects include Relocation of Channel 10 from North Ryde to Ultimo, maintaining on-air coverage, roll-out of Lend Lease conversion to ISDN, and Certificate Security implementation for the Commonwealth Electronic Commerce System
