It’s the buzzword that’s all around us.
Entrepreneurs embrace new technologies to change ‘business-as-usual’ models, introducing much needed competition into staid industries.
Nookal set about bringing that spirit of entrepreneurship to the world of allied health services.
Originally founded by an accomplished physiotherapist and clinic owner, the team behind Nookal understood first-hand the frustrations healthcare professionals experienced with existing Practice Management Software.
Over the years they’d invested in four such systems. Yet, for various reasons, each fell short of expectations to:
1. Manage clients, including: · Automate bookings
· Streamline SMS and email communications
· Maintain up-to-date clinical notes
2. Manage the business, including: · Financial controls
· Staff schedules
· Medicare and health insurance rebates
· Securely store confidential documents
3. Provide crucial data analysis for reporting, tracking goals and improving processes.
Necessity has always been the mother of invention. So, finding themselves in need of a better solution, they teamed up with IT professionals to develop a new type of Practice Management Software to meet the needs of allied healthcare professionals.
The result was Nookal.
Running multiple physiotherapy clinics comes with significant challenges.
The Nookal team understood their new system needed flexibility as a core feature of the platform, in order to enable users to work effectively anywhere, at any time.
From the outset they focused on building CLOUD-based software so users could access the system from any location with an internet connection. And unlike the server-based systems used by other Practice Management Software providers, Nookal’s users would not need to invest in, and maintain, expensive physical hardware.
With reduced costs and increased flexibility, Nookal was bringing much-needed innovation to the sector.
In discussions with other allied healthcare professionals, they soon realised demand for the Software-as-a-Solution (SaaS) system was high. Since launching, Nookal has been embraced by allied healthcare professionals across Australia, New Zealand and Britain, with other markets in the pipeline.
As a solution designed by practitioners, for practitioners, Nookal prides itself on being simple, easy and secure.
However, with the flexibility that comes from a purely web-based platform, come additional challenges. With healthcare professionals storing highly confidential patient data, Nookal takes integrity and security extremely seriously.
To help ensure the cybersecurity profile of the platform was sufficiently robust, Nookal turned to Shearwater.
Nookal has expressed interest in working with Shearwater in the future on additional vulnerability and penetration testing.
Given Nookal’s rapid global expansion, and their proactive approach to cybersecurity, ongoing security testing will help Nookal provide its users with the confidence they need regarding the system’s integrity.
